The Queen's Head , in the village of Fyfield in Essex, is a delightful, privately-owned free house serving a superb gastro-style menu. The seventeenth-century pub, is situated in beautiful countryside three miles north of Chipping Ongar in Essex, at the junction of Ongar Road, Queen Street and Dunmow Road. The listed building retains most of its original features, including an oak-beamed lounge bar and restaurant and large inglenook fireplaces.

From July 1, 2007, smoking was made illegal in all enclosed spaces. An outdoor smoking area has been created outside under a large parasol at the side of the pub beside the main entrance. Tables are provided there for the customers who want to smoke or watch village life while having a drink, perhaps accompanied by a delicious, freshly-prepared snack or meal. The covered area is heated in cold weather. Smokers can also sit in the beer garden when the weather is good.

Children under 14 years old are not allowed in the bar or restaurant, but they are welcome to sit under the parasol all year round or in the large beer garden, where they can watch the ducks on the river and the river's bank.

The beer garden at the back of the pub overlooks the river Roding, itself watched over by majestic willow and poplar trees and populated by ducks and moorhens.

The Queen's Head has been transformed from a traditional pub into one that serves gastro-style meals, fine wines, champagnes, cognacs and real ales. The high quality of the menus and service is superlative, drawing full houses from near and far.

The pub provides one of the largest selections of fine wines, champagnes and real ales in Essex. Along with these are the usual provision of lagers and soft drinks. The pub has has had a prominent listing in the The Good Pub Guide and the Good Beer Guide every year since 2002. It was awarded Pub of the Week status in the first week in May 2008 on The Good Pub Guide website. Bar snacks and a lighter menu are available from Monday to Saturday during the lunch hours. Traditional beef, pork and lamb roasts as well as a full lunch menu are provided on Sundays. Links to sample menus are provided below. The following meals appear as extras on the Sunday lunch menu:

When this website has been fully developed, the current menus will be displayed so that customers can choose what they want to order in advance.

The Queen's Head can seat around 45 people and offers a gastro menu freshly cooked by a professional chef. The dining/bar area is ideal for parties of any size from 2 to 22 people. The menus change throughout the year to make the best use of the fresh produce currently in season. A typical menu can provide anything from Roast quail on garlic croutons with red wine jus to Home made steak and kidney pie with short crust pastry. To help wash down your food and delight your pallet, the pub provides a large selection of fine wines, champagnes and cognacs.

All of the food and drink is prepared and provided in conditions that adhere strictly to the current laws of health and safety.

The Queen's Head bar and restaurant provides gastronomic delight and a relaxing atmosphere, which provides our customers with welcome relief from the poor, microwaved food and nerve-wracking atmospheres provided by the chain pubs that are increasingly becoming the rule nowadays.
